Decentralized and encrypted messenger and communities.
OpenArcanum is an open-source, end-to-end encrypted chat platform for communities, styled after Discord. There are no accounts: users sign in with locally generated keys, each community runs its own server (self-hosted or via the app), and relays/maintainer nodes just pass along encrypted traffic. It offers text channels, roles, moderation, and voice/video calls with screen sharing, via a browser app or desktop clients for Linux, Windows and macOS.
Why now: It was just shared on Hacker News as a Show HN post, pitched as an encrypted, account-free alternative to Discord — an active debate topic given Discord's centralization.
Who it is for: Communities and privacy-conscious users who want Discord-style chat but prefer self-hosted servers and key-based identity over accounts.
